Do you know someone who suffers from Paralysis by Analysis? Someone who overthinks even the slightest decision. Paralysis by analysis is the state of over-analyzing (or over-thinking) a situation so that a decision or action is never taken, in effect paralyzing the outcome. I can certainly relate! When too many decisions need to be made and things just seem hard, I freeze and come up with some action/task that distracts my mind and, I feel, must get done immediately. I have even been known to go into full "nesting" mode to just avoid the hard decisions that need to be made. You may ask, "what is this nesting you speak of?" Well…I may decide to clean out my closet, bathroom drawers, pantry, or refrigerator to just name a few. My forms of avoidance result in purging and organizing. Which in itself is bizarre since I'm not fond of any of the afore-mentioned activities. Perhaps when I declutter my home, I feel strangely able to make brain-space for these decisions. BUT, more than likely, it's a way to expel some energy and anxiety about decision avoidance.
Unsure if this is YOU. Here are some questions to ponder:
Are you easily overwhelmed by your available options?
Do you tend to over complicate the decision when it could be quite simple?
Are you searching for the “perfect” decision and must do ALL of your research first?
Do you fear you may make a wrong decision, hence preventing any decision from being made?
